Poem in your Pocket Day

April 17, 2008 at 1:34 am (books, fun) (, , )

April is National Poetry Month and in NYC today ( April 17th) is Poem in your pocket day. Now I may not have a pocket , so I thought I’d put a poem here. Les Barker is an English Poet. Though he writes a number of political poems, in the US we hear most of his funny poems. This is the first poem I heard him recite. (not quite funny)

You can hear more on the YouTube, and his poems are all over the Internet- just google.

Have your heard any news of the iceburg,
I’ve come to eat them you see.

Les Barker, one of the best poets. Right up there with Shel Silverstein (There’s a polar bear in my frigidaire…) and Robert W. Service.
