I am watching ‘fresh from the garden’ because they are doing a show on growing tomatoes. Glad I didn’t watch this before I started growing tomatoes.  They  are making it look very complicated. I just stuck them in the grown and sprinkled a slow release fertilizer. Today I decided it was time to stake them. Turns out I planted the wrong – should of had them staked then, too. Opps. Happily,I can report 4 tomatoes on three of my six plants. That sounds ok for early June. Esp since I can get tomatoes here until December.

I’d say that’s poor television. It’s supposed to inspire and not make planting tomatoes look difficult!

Stakes prevent blossom rot and make them easier to pick. On St. Helena the inventory of tomato stakes exceed $1,000,000.

I thinking it’s a good thing to be growing your own tomatoes with the salmonelia on tomatoes brake out this week end. I bought my first local tomatoes at the Farmer’s Market, Saturday. Growing them for us had turmed into a war with the squirrels and they won.
