good-bye garden

Well, the veggie garden just wasn’t as successful this year as it was last year.It started with a bang – but then just got tired.Talking to a friend, he felt that because the water runs through the garden – I probably need more fertilizer.

Today I decided to pull everything out of the garden, including the two-year old tarragon and oregano I found another culprit. The oregano roots ran all over the garden box. I am guessing it was a food hog.

Plan for next year.First — more dirt — I want the box almost full. Hopefully some of it will come from my compost pile. Second, more fertilizer. Or more often.

new soil and definitely more compost (which I’m learning more about.) and fertilizer, organic would be good, it doesn’t burn. Your box is like containers/pot; roots can take over and water/rain can flush everything out . In two year at best your soil is all use up,depending on its depth. On composting… I know a women that tears her newspaper and adds that, plus her shredded mail except fot the plastic to her pile. It also has to get realy hot to get good compost and have moisture. I’m still learning. We’ve had rain and my radish and lettuse seeds are up. We’ll eat this winter.

I hope you planted more than radishes and lettuce. That doesn’t sound substantial enough for winter food.

I am hoping I figure out enough about this garden before we have to rely on it for food
