Book list 18

August 26, 2011 at 11:38 am (Uncategorized) ()

Shiver by  Maggie stiefvater- Werewolf story – slowish  start but more  and more interesting towards  the end.  I  belive  the next one in the series focuses of different  characters.

Lockdown by Alexander Gordon Smith – teen prison story – compelling  read but I am  not sure if I liked it

Ghost and the goth Stacy Kade A cheerleader becomes a ghost and it looks like she has a reason to stick around … silly, but fun.

Spray by Harry edge ( really can you believe the name ) and elaboration of the game Assassins, a pretty good excuse for putting mysterious characters together

4  for  august … Is  there  time for one  more?

wake up Detroit – or at least GM

August 23, 2011 at 1:40 pm (rant) (, , )

This was  written by a  friend – It  looks like  her  7  year old chevy is going to be junked, because they no longer  make the gas  pedal – that  is used on a  number  of
chevy  cars.  she  had been  thinking Camero – now she  is  thinking mustang…

anticipation

August 19, 2011 at 11:24 am (fitness, fun, walking) (, , )

That is  where I am now.  Last  weekend  of  big  walks until THE WALK.   I  feel  like I can  do  it  now ( but no I’m  not packed  yet ), and I am  mentally  prepared.  It is  sort of  constantly  hovering in my  mind. I’m  making list in my  brain and checking  things  off.  making decisions. Planning all my  next  steps, so  on  the day  of  the walk ( which  starts  at  an  hour when I can’t  even  see  yet ) I just  have to walk .  ( or as  al  the promo and safety  videos  say ‘walk  and pee’ ) .

hints for the big walk

the underground guide to the breast cancer walk

My sister K found this – and I like it a lot

Here are two important lines:

As a rule of thumb, your clothing (with the exception of your jacket, sneakers, fanny pack, sleeping bag and air mattress/pad) should fit into a paper grocery bag (just to measure). If you’ve got more than that, you may be bringing too much.

You will not lose weight during your Walk. I realize that this is not what you were hoping to hear, but I thought I’d mention it anyway.

Glee

August 12, 2011 at 12:51 pm (tv) ()

I  haven’t  exactly  been mainlineing  this  show – but  pretty  close.  I  watched  the premiree – it  looked fun , but never  go around to  watching more.  last  night I  finished season  1  and started  season 2.    Basic  impressions:

1) the  adults  act  like  teenagers.  the  most  annoying aspect  of  the  show

2)  season  1  got  bettter.

3)  the  best thing  they  did  for  Sue  was  giver  her  a softer  side – it made  her  mean more  fun.

4)  this  is  the  earwormiest  show  ever. Sorry, Journey  is  not  my  favorite.

5) It is  very  powerful when Raw  emotions are  expressed  in song on  this  show.  I’m  not  sure  why  it  works  so  well, but  it  really  does.

All in  all ,Im  enjoying  the Show.  It  isn’t  on  th elevel of BTVS or  Firefly. But  it  is  entertaining  and I  don’t  tend  to  poke  at  the computer  when I  am  watching it – rare  these days.

book list 17

August 1, 2011 at 10:59 am (Uncategorized) ()

Only two to add

I reread The Corinthian by Grogette heyer – I just really needed a comfort read , something that I could pick up for 5 minutes and not care how far I got

and I am Almost finished with Deadline , which is the follow up to Feed by Mira Grant. great – I wasn’t sure I was going to like it as much as Feed, but I am – the big problem , It is no fun to read it in short chunks.

So 4 books in July plus 50 for the rest of the year.
