wake up Detroit – or at least GM
This was written by a friend – It looks like her 7 year old chevy is going to be junked, because they no longer make the gas pedal – that is used on a number of
chevy cars. she had been thinking Camero – now she is thinking mustang…
diabetes
I Love this article.
Control is a bad word for diabetes. Really. Eat well, exercise — and then fall off your bike . Up goes the blood sugar. Take boot camp – lots of exercise — stress your body — up goes the blood sugar. Take care of someone sick — up goes your blood sugar. Feel for someone’s problems — up goes your blood sugar. Life happens and your blood sugar goes. up . As my Doctor says — diabetes is a progressive disease. – progressively worse.
Influence is a better word. It makes sense from my experience.
I like the word influence for all diseases. You can do everything in you r power to prevent a cold, and still get one. But it is a great word for chronic conditions. Life will always get in the way of control.
I’m not that picky about word choices. In fact, my DH would say I am careless. But sometimes it really makes a difference.
Not my rant, but a good one
This blog does a good rant on women , and how we aren’t willing to say what we know or toot our own horn. And how it hurts us. For me , the most interesting point was because we a re afraid of being judged. and if you are afraid of that — well we can never be the best the top or even known. A point to ponder.
here is the story of a man that needs a library
Library budgets are being cut every where. In this story an 11 year old girl defends her library. A man cuts her down to size:
He said Oak Brook had to “stop indulging people in their hobbies” and “their little, personal, private wants.”
Let’s start him with a book on manners.
He also complains about some one making 100K to put away books. He needs to brush up on he research skills. Do you know what someone making that salary is doing? Exactly what he asks for — trying to raise money and find resources for library funding (and developing relationships with various groups and members of the community, and finding ways to improve library service, and oddly – budgeting ).
Thanks to Closed Stacks for bringing this to my attention .
Insurance
In my house we are once again having fun with insurance. The story so far.
DHnworked for co X — but new management said goodbye. Luckily, DH started at co Z – a consultancy , but the with the economy as it has been — he needed to move to co Z. Co Z was unhappy with the insurance plan that they had. So we have new insurance, maybe. The Transition has not gone smoothly. Meanwhile I am getting call from my docotors office asking about what my insurance co said about bills in Jan, Mar, and May. Note that it is august.
Without even looking at this collection of health care stories guess how badly I think something needs to change.
united breaks guitars
Actually they aren’t the only airline that does. DH bought a case for one of his guitars that we can jump up and down on and not damage a guitar. But since you can no longer lock the case, it doesn’t help when it is thrown. Carry a small one thea fits in the overhead , you still only have a 50/50 chance of not gate-checking. So while I do not think this is the greatest song ever– at 25 dollars abeg, you should expect some care
