book list

January 10, 2011 at 1:28 pm (books, social networking, vampires) (, )

So My sister mentioned how many books she read this year and I didn’t keep track this year for the first time in a long time. But I do know I read less than my usual 100 or so books. Way less . And it is the fault of facebook . Mostly because I just poke at t he computer — for ‘just a few more minutes’ which ends up in me heading to the bedroom just a little later, which means very little reading before sleep. So I thought I’d keep a rough list here and see if I can bump the number back up if the books are staring at me

this year so far:

Bad kitty by Micheele Jaffe riduculous, fun ya mystory in Vegas

Souless by Gail Carriger Vampire/werewolf/romance/ stempunk mystery – fun

and I am alomost finished with

The Reformed Vampire Support Group by Caherine Jinks – a little more real than the other two.

LA weekend

January 27, 2010 at 11:40 am (domestic life, food, fun, music, social networking) (, , )

It  was a very  busy  social  weekend  for  us. Some  friends  of ours were  married in Maui  and  had  their reception  this  past  weekend.  But  also it   a good trip  away  from  the everyday,  which  we  really  needed.

Things  I learned  about LA  this weekend:

Despite  the traffic,  most  of LA  seems to  have fairly courteous    drivers.

It  really is quite  beautiful in  LA

Despite being  the place for  beautiful  people,  there is  a whole bunch of places  where  you  can  get really  good, less than  healthy  food.  I’m  thinking Pinks ,  which has  great hotdogs. Or Roscoe’s.  Or  In  and  Out Burger.

Things  I  knew , but love  having reenforced.  My  Buffy  people are great.  Smart, lively , fun   and  tolerant .  Good  People to hang  with .  Turns out the other  friends  we  met — Which  were some of DH’s online  tribe –  the same.

Finally, it  was great to go to a  guitar store, hear  my DH  play  and have  strangers – that  had  no  need or reason other than appreciation — say  good  things about my DH’s playing.

The current meme on Facebook is to say what you are thankful for once a day. I was pretty excited by this idea, because I like my life. It isn’t problem free, but it is good. Turns out, even when you are happy with life , some days you do not feel grateful. So saying thank you is probably good practice.

the intenet does not isolate us

I’ve know this forever. I speak/type with hundreds of people everyday on the internet. Here, facebook, my buffy board , and email. No one ever believes me when I say it has been positive for my social life. But now there is proof. With numbers. I wonder if anyone will believe me now?

Well, I finally commited Facebook. Scary place. Too many things going on. Too many people. And I’m’getting a billion emails from facebook ( yes I know I can shut that down, I just have to figure out where and how) And How come so many people my age look old? I know — all the people I went to high school and college with are in thier midforties and I don’t expect them to look young, but I was surprised.

Now if you will excuse me I have to go finish a pillow fight , and fight with some vampires, and …oh yeah ….work.

I love my computer. I love my TIVO . Spell check lets me breathe. and the answering machine lets me laugh. But, if anything will drive me to drink , it is technology.

Dh took a tiny 15 second video on his phone. I wanted to put it here.

First I couldn’t play it on my computer — even converted. On my new computer — the video stuff is too old. We downloaded itunes — got something that worked. And then I tried to upload it here . Part of what I read said I needed a video upgrade. Part of what I read listed some media files I can upload. it was ambiguous. But I figured out , I needed an upgrade. Cool, I haven’t payed for anything here yet. But the price was more than I wanted to pay for 1 15 second video, esp. since who knows if I will ever do this again. So I put it up on my Youtube account. It said it was uploaded. So I clicked on my list of uploaded videos — and there it was….uploading. which is confusing, because it was uploaded.

I will birddog this problem until I figure it out. However, I am sure I will need more rum.
