Whee — but I think the hall is done.
It was a rather random day. First , tattoos. There was a discussion on NPR, a discussion on my favorite board, and a tattoo design left in a copy machine.
This afternoon , in the middle of our floor finishing – two kids rang our bell. They wanted to know if this was the house where the ‘guy that makes guitars lives’ . Well it is. But we had never seen thses kids before. Turns out a friend mentioned DH to them, and they hoped on their bikes to see. Brave kids to come see a stranger , but then again guitar lust has been known to over come almost anything else.
Tomorrow the door jam will go back under the front door – goodbye icy draft.
Actually I just want to declare the person that put the vacuum cleaner on the floor sander that I can use with very little effort, a saint. edge boards in,threshold in , a few hours of sanding, and the first coat of finish. A day of accomplishment.
here it is a picture of the Finished Floor:
and by finished I mean that we need to work on the transitions to the living room and kitchen, put in some edge boards, sand, fill , sand, and finish.
So Sunday we actually stated nailing in the floors. ok, DH is nailing (hand nailing, no nail gun) and I am playing the pat of human floor Jack. ( I push the boards tightly together while the nailing is going on ). No talk about work and pain today, it is nice to get an idea of what this 18th month project is going to look like when finished.
with surprise evil floor under it. Ancient linoleum tiles ( the fake brick look) with a nice thick layer of ancient glue. gross and really pretty too.( ok ,lying) To get up this carpet — we cut it in six inch strips and pull and pull and pull. cursing helps. First time I’ve ever wished for more junk in my trunk — I am just leaning back and using my whole body to pull the carpet. Right now,I’m pretending that there is nothing else I should be doing right now, but sit on the couch.
