So I’ve been thinking about the Zombie apocalypse, as one does. What would I need and what would be the winning item to have the corner on. I have a cold , so my first thought was guaifenesin. But then I thought , the person that corners the market on steam is the winner. It is good for colds and asthma and sore muscles and cold weather. It is also really good for cleaning, especially if you have a microfiber cloth. And of course it can be used as a power source. I’m pretty sure with the current tech in plastics and metals we could do stuff that was more useful than early attempts at steam power.
( and no, I’m not so worried about vampires – they are smart enough to know they need people – so they will do what they can to keep the cattle happy )
Somehow I ended up with two vampire novels in my bag this weekend. Which meant I read one right after another. Marked by P.C. Cast and Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. Both take place in a world where vampires have always existed and there are schools for young vampires. I have to say that I like Marked better.
In Marked, Zoey finds out that she is a vampire — or a fledgling– she won’t fully become a vampire for a number of years. In fact, her body may reject the change and she might die. Vampires seem to be more involved in the world with humans. There are a lots of mystical elements — Cherokee myths, and old earth religions mixed into a contemporary world. I really like Zoey, her friends, and the adults in the book.
In Vampire Academy, the world is different — the vampires are separate from the rest of the world, and live in an old fashion hierarchy. Magic seems less important ( but I think that might change ) than fight strength. I have to say that I don’t really like most of the characters. Every one is supposed to be smart, but I don’t see a lot of brain power being used.
I loved Marked and can’t wait to read the second in that series. Vampire Academy, well , I will read the second, but not right now. And yes, both were much better than Twilight.
( and no, no one can turn into a bat in either book)
This sign for a church is really, really funny and slightly suspicious …
Love it the new librarian movie – dec 7th- has vampires. Bliss Vodpod videos no longer available.
i decided to take pinkwerewolf’s advice and read a book. Well, talk about a book I finished a day or two ago. And to prove that I am not just interested in superheros and supervillians. I like vampires , too. Wicked Games by Jeri Smith-Ready is an excellent vampire novel.
Ciara Griffin is an ex con artist that needs an internship to finish her college degree. She finds a job at WVMP, a radio station With DJs that are unusual . You guessed it , they are vampires. The station is about to be sold to a big corporate radio station. Ciara uses her skills as a con artist and the outong ( ?) of the vampires to try and save the station.
Things I liked:
1) The vampires are dangerous. and not sparklely.
2) Our heroine can take care of herself.
3) Sequel is possible, but not needed
4) Ciara is a con artist and we see the cons
Thing I don’t like:
1) Ihave to search for more books. No more books by Jeri Smith-Ready in my library.
